Tell your representatives to vote for the Veterinary Medicine Loan Repayment Program Enhancement Act of 2017. This bill will increase the number of veterinarians practicing in America’s rural underserved areas by helping repay their student loans.
Currently, the Veterinary Medicine Loan Repayment Program (VMLRP) provides student loan relief to veterinarians who commit to serving at least three years in a designated veterinary shortage area. Unfortunately, each award is subject to a 39 percent withholding tax. This expensive tax decreases the number of veterinarians who can benefit from loan relief each year and the number of rural communities they can serve.
The Veterinary Medicine Loan Repayment Program Enhancement Act of 2017 will eliminate this tax so that more money is available to help veterinarians serving in designated shortage areas – and the ranchers and farmers who depend on them. Tell your member of Congress to support this important bill!
