The practice of soring – deliberately causing pain to exaggerate the leg motion of a horse’s gait to gain an unfair advantage in show rings – has been able to illegally continue for too long. Soring incorporates abusive techniques like soaking horses’ legs in kerosene or grinding their hooves to expose sensitive tissues.
The USDA has finalized a long-awaited rule to crack down on this inhumane practice, but the rule is currently suspended. Each moment we wait to implement this rule, more and more horses suffer. Tell the USDA and the White House that horses can’t afford to wait for soring to end – they need common sense protections now.
